With nearly three decades of combined experience in public policy, strategic communications, and campaign work, our team brings deep knowledge and sharp instincts to every project. From helping pass free-market legislation to crafting opinion pieces that shift narratives, we’ve worked with think tanks, elected officials, and political candidates across the country. We know what it takes to communicate complex ideas with clarity—and we’ve got the policy chops and messaging skills to back it up.

Sarah Johnson

Founder, Lead Creative

Sarah is the founder of Spotlight Liberty, a boutique creative agency that helps small businesses, political campaigns, and liberty-minded organizations break through the noise with bold strategy and compelling storytelling.

Before launching Spotlight Liberty, Sarah served as Director of the Office of Small Business Advocacy for the State of Nevada, where she championed policies to reduce red tape and help entrepreneurs thrive. Her work directly contributed to the passage of landmark legislation expanding opportunities for cottage food and cosmetic producers—opening doors for more Nevadans to start and grow home-based businesses.

Sarah has worked with some of America’s most impactful and effective free market think tanks, developing winning messages and advocacy strategies that helped pass legislation on everything from regulatory reform to school choice. Most recently, she played a key role in protecting fairness in women’s sports in Nevada, ensuring that female athletes have equal opportunity to compete in middle and high school athletics.

In addition to her policy and advocacy work, Sarah has provided communications and strategy support to a wide range of political campaigns—from local judicial races to competitive congressional campaigns—giving her firsthand insight into what it takes to win in today’s political landscape.

At her core, Sarah believes creative work should do more than look good—it should drive results. That philosophy fuels everything at Spotlight Liberty, where she leads a nimble team dedicated to helping freedom-focused brands and campaigns win hearts, minds, and market share. Sarah holds a bachelor’s degree in Marketing and Communications and a master’s degree in Public Policy from Vanderbilt University.

Drew Johnson

Founder, Government Affairs & Media Relations

Drew brings nearly 30 years of experience advancing free market policy solutions at every level of government. As Director of Government Affairs at Spotlight Liberty, he leads strategic initiatives that help clients navigate the political landscape, build coalitions, and turn good ideas into real-world results.

Over the course of his career, Drew has worked hand-in-hand with lawmakers, think tanks, and advocacy groups to craft and pass impactful legislation rooted in limited government and economic freedom. His ability to move the needle goes beyond the halls of government—he’s an expert communicator known for building robust multimedia campaigns, shaping public opinion with compelling op-eds, and delivering messaging that connects across party lines.

Drew holds a master’s degree in Public Policy from Pepperdine University and has become a trusted voice in the liberty movement for his practical approach and proven results.

When he’s not working to advance freedom-focused policy, Drew enjoys traveling the world with his wife and hiking closer to home with their two rescue dogs, Olive and Nola Mae.
